Creating a MapTiler API Key

MapTiler provides a free tier for non-commercial and evaluation use. An API key is required to access their maps and services.

Create a MapTiler Account #

Before we can get an API key, it’s important that you create your MapTiler account.

1. Go to the MapTiler Cloud sign-up page.
2. Click on the sign up option and follow the prompts to create your account.
3. Once complete, sign in to your account to access your dashboard.

Create an API Key #

MapTiler automatically generates a “Default” key for immediate testing. However, for public use in a WordPress website, it is highly recommended to create a new, protected key to prevent potential misuse.

1. Within your Dashboard navigate to the API Keys section, typically located on the left-hand menu.
2. Create a New key by clicking on the button available on this page.
3. Enter a descriptive name for your key and optionally (recommend) enable the protection method to limit access for your domain only.
   • Allowed HTTP Origins > Enter your domain
4. Generate the new key by clicking on Create and wait for the key to be generated.
5. Once created Copy your API key and add it to our settings area under Maps > Settings > General > MapTiler Key.
