Creating a LocationIQ Access Token

LocationIQ is built on OpenStreetMap data and provides a generous free tier that is ideal for WordPress mapping applications. Your API key is referred to as an “Access Token.”

Create a LocationIQ Account #

In order for you to get your access token, you will need a LocationIQ Account.

1. Go to the LocationIQ registration page.
2. Complete the registration form and create your account.
3. Once your account has been registered and verified, you should be able to login to your account Dashboard.

Get Your Access Token #

A default Access Token is automatically generated upon account creation. LocationIQ allows you to restrict this token using HTTP referrers (your website domain) for better security.

1. From within the Dashboard navigate to the API Access Tokens tab within the menu.
2. Locate your Default Token, which was pre-created for you during registration.
3. Optionally (recommended), restrict your key by setting the Allowed Referrers option.
4. Copy your token by clicking on the “Show Token” button and copying.
5. This access token can then be added to our settings area under Maps > Settings > General > LocationIQ Access Token.
