    Dear Team,

I just bought your Pro Version and have a question already.

I receive XML data from MarineTraffic.com about the current position of my sailing boat ‘Kobbe’ in real time (list update every two minutes). In April I’ll need to display the boats sailing trip from Amsterdam to the Faroe Island (inkl. completed route as a path) on my website. Unfortunately when entering the XML-URL into ‘Advanced Settings for XML’ I only see the message that the XML ‘COULD NOT SAVE MARKER XML FILE’.

See the error on my page near the footer: http://intotheatlantic.com

Under this link you can find the XML response MarineTraffic sends to me. I receive my XML-data like this example -> “XML sample response [simple]”:
    https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais-api-services/documentation/api-service:ps01/_:a8e94c726e9063461093fc741111ad37?cb=2462

Can your plugin read the list? What am I doing wrong?

    Kind regards
    Yenzi

    Hi Yenzi,

Thank you for getting in touch with us on this matter.

The XML file option in the plugin Settings can only take markers as found on your site, it cannot actually load markers from another source outside of your site. So in this case, it cannot load information listed on an external server sa our plugin cannot access that server (whereas it does have access to your site server).

I took a look at your XML file though but it appears as though there is an error with it already (Screenshot), this may be from the actual site you are pulling the data from (https://www.marinetraffic.com) as our plugin cannot produce an error like the one in the screenshot.

Could you perhaps check with that site listed above and see if they recognize the error at all as it appears to be saying that you do not have credits to use the file?

I hope I have explained, but please let me know if you need anything else and I will be happy to help you as best I can.

    Hi Nathan,

    Wow, thas was quick. Thanks!

I understand. So I’d probably need something like a ‘switch-plugin’ making external XML’s to internal XML’s on my server in order to load it into your plugin, right?

Regarding the error with marinetraffic.com: You are right. I should have said that before. Every API-call I do cost me 1 marinetraffic-credit (they charge me through the long-API number listed in the link you called). When I buy new credits the API-Call will transfer data again.

Have you ever heard of any “switch-plugin” for this propose?

    Kind regards
    Yenzi

    Hi Nathan,

I have another account with available credits:
    https://services.marinetraffic.com/api/exportvesseltrack/e69b872ac0640319c950a5e581b2cefdccceb6c2/v:2/period:daily/days:2/mmsi:205280690

Please be care-full with the amount of calls, it cost me money per link call…

Why can I give your plugin an URL to load markers if it cannot access external servers?

    Many thanks.

    Kind regards
    Yenzi

    Hi Yenzi,

Thank you so much for getting back to me on this matter and I really do appreciate your time.

I have transferred this ticket to a senior developer and they will be logging in to see perhaps what the issue is.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

    Hi Yenzi

Perry here from the development team, nice to meet you!

Have you tried using the database pull option?

    Kind regards
