I can’t find a clear answer.
Can you have a map that can sort by say, “types of shoes” (with a list of shoe categories underneath it) and “types of shirts” (with a list of shirt categories underneath it).
So, more than 1 filtering option?
Thank you.
January 18, 2017 at 7:33 am #23351DylanModeratorHi there,
Dylan here from the development team.
Unfortunately we do not currently support sub categories, however we are currently in the process of developing this sub category system and we hope to have it ready/release in the not too distant future.
I hope this helps? 🙂

Can I display a map with multiple categories, with check boxes for which categories to display in the map?
Here are some screenshots of a map with this functionality rolled into the theme code.

Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch.
Yes out latest version not only includes the functionality to filter by marker categories, but also now include sub-category support. This means you are able to assign a ‘parent’ to a category for multi-dimensional filtering.
I hope this helps?
🙂

May 8, 2017 at 6:56 pm #26924nicholasoMemberI have a question about this somewhat. Not sure how to best phrase this.
I am wondering if you can have an item attached to multiple catagories.
So say i have a map of shoe dealers with the brands. I have categories for dealers of nike, converse and puma.
Say one of my dealers supplies all three brans. Is there a way on the map and organizing the items so someone can search for all three brands at the same time?
hope this makes sense.May 9, 2017 at 7:37 am #26945DylanModeratorHi there,
Thank you so much for getting in touch.
Yes this is fully supported, however you may not be able to make use of this when using the ‘dropdown’ box for category selection.
Please try switching this to checkboxes instead by clicking on Maps -> Settings -> And setting the ‘Filter by category displayed as’ to Checkboxes instead of dropdown.
This will allow you to edit a marker and assign it to multiple categories from within the map editor.
To my knowledge you can switch back to dropdown once the marker has been assigned to the categories to allow the dropdown box to show on the front end (if preferred).
I hope this helps?
May 14, 2017 at 12:47 pm #27109creawbeMemberHello Dylan,
Is this functionality supported by the “subcategory” system as you mentioned? I cannot find anywhere how to use this functionality.
I explained my problem in this screenshot:

And have been talking to your colleague, Perry, for a while now:
Adding two top level additional categories for marker filtering
May 15, 2017 at 7:53 am #27120DylanModeratorHi there,
Thank you so much for your time on this one.
Perry mentioned to me recently, and explained that he will be rebuilding some of the sub category functionality to automatically select the parent category.
Presently the use is expected to select the parent category, and all sub categories they would like to support.
Then by enabling the ‘OR’ filter method (WP Google Maps -> Settings -> Category Selection Logic) the markers will filter accordingly.
I hope this helps?
