I’m in the process of adding thousands of markers (I’m up to about 2500 currently) and I’m trying out cluster markers. I’m not sure if that improves or slows down performance but I wanted to try that out. The problem I have is I’m seeing numbers across the map (see attachment) and not cluster markers. I did notice that there are missing graphics when I look at the cluster marker settings (there’s also an attachment showing that). My site is:

Why are the the cluster markers missing and am I correct in thinking that cluster markers would improve performance?

    Hi there,

Thank you so much for getting in touch, we really appreciate your time.

The clustering feature should help to improve map performance when attempting to pan and control the map.

Clustering, however, won’t improve the initial load speed as all the markers are still required to be loaded in order for the clustering feature to determine which markers to cluster so the initial load speed will remain the same.

As for the icons, it does seem your site is having an issue loading the icons so could I kindly ask you to possibly attempt resetting the icons?

Additionally, to confirm why there is an issue loading the icons, kindly open the Browser Console(Chrome: F12 -> Click Console) This should yield a few messages to determine why the images aren’t loading.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Kindest Regards,

OK – I’ve re-created my map on a virtual box with more memory for better performance and am still dealing with lag issues. I think the problem is that most of the 4000 markers are in northeastern North America and that it’s trying to load too much data at once, even with clustering and a cache plugin. I also tried using the check box for limiting the display of markers to the visible area but I think there are too many markers to load. You can see the behavior and the number of markers here:

I’m wondering if there is a way to disable showing markers by default unless someone uses the store locator function and then display stores within that area.

    Hi again,

Thank you so much for getting back to me.

Could I kindly ask you top navigate to -> Maps -> Map Editor -> Store Locator -> Once here you should be able to enable the “Hide all markers until a search is done” setting which should keep all markers hidden until a search has been completed.

Kindly let me know if this setting does not show for you?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Kindest Regards,
