I’m importing some CSVs that have been carefully curated. Our map categories have an ID of 1 through 7. They are filled out correctly in the CSV with single digits out of 1 through 7, respectively.

However, upon import, the plugin identifies everything except the categories and is leaving every marker uncategorized. I have to manually categorize every one of them. This is inconvenient since we need to do a few thousand.

If I download a CSV of the marker data, the download looks just like I uploaded it even on the ones I manually assigned. The category column reads 1 through 7.

Any idea of what’s causing the plugin to not read and assign those categories upon import?

    Hi there,

Thank you so much for getting in touch, we really appreciate your time.

Could I kindly ask you to provide us with the CSV file being used?

Additionally, could I kindly ask which Import method you are using?
    1. Maps -> Advanced -> Import

    or

    2. Maps -> Marker Data -> Upload Marker CSV File

Kindly ensure you make use of the first method mentioned above as the second method is no longer relevant and is primarily for older versions of WP Google Maps.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Kindest Regards,

Hi Steven, interesting! I was using method 2. We have actually done most of our importing with JSON over the last year, but this particular project is easier on CSV.

Let me try and do an import with method 1 and I’ll report back if it works correctly.

    Thanks,
    Danny

Hi, wow, that totally made the difference. I didn’t know I shouldn’t use that second method. I cleared all the markers as we are starting with a fresh upload, even down to the ID “0” for each row. I used the method you recommended and it worked. The categories were assigned properly. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

    Hi Danny,

Thank you so much for getting back to me and my apologies for the delay over the weekend.

I am glad to hear this has helped and that your import was successful. 🙂

Do let me know if there is anything more I can help with as I am always eager to assist.

If you ever have two minutes spare, please consider reviewing the plugin on https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/wp-google-maps/reviews/#new-post it would mean the world to me! (If possible, could I ask you to mention both your name and mine in the review for administrative purposes, this would be a tremendous help!)

Do have a great week ahead!

    Kindest Regards,
    Steven De Beer
