Are categories included in the free version?
Basic category assignment is included for free. The Pro add-on unlocks filtering widgets, custom icons, legends, child categories, and the standalone shortcode.
How does category filtering work?
Visitors can filter markers using a dropdown or checkboxes displayed near the map. When they select a category, the map instantly updates to show only the markers that belong to that category.
Can I set a custom icon for each category?
Yes. In the Pro version, you can upload a unique marker icon for each category. Markers automatically inherit their category icon on the map, giving visitors a clear visual cue about each location type.
What is the difference between AND and OR logic?
OR logic shows markers that belong to any of the selected categories. AND logic shows only markers that belong to all selected categories at the same time. You can switch between the two in the plugin settings.
Is there a standalone shortcode for the category filter?
Yes. WP Go Maps Pro includes a standalone category filter shortcode that you can place anywhere on the page, completely separate from the map. A native Gutenberg block is also available for the block editor.
Can I import categories via CSV?
Yes. WP Go Maps supports importing categories through CSV files. You can bulk-create categories and assign them to markers during the import, which is especially helpful when setting up a large number of locations.
